URPoint Details

Sheep-ford, now known as Shefford is a busy market community with the friendliness of a village.
Its origin stems from various sheep crossings and shepherds tracks.

The right to hold a market here was granted in the 13th century. The markets are wonderful and well laid out and worth a visit.

The home of Robert Bloomfield who wrote ‘Farmers Boy' published in 1800 lived here. He worked as an agricultural labourer and shoemaker and lived in poverty during the last years of his life and died in 1823.
