Samuel Pepys the diarist in 1665 supervised the building of the dockyard here, although much of the modern construction was designed by John Rennie the architect in 1812.
The Royal Fountain Inn’s claim to fame is that the body of Lord Nelson was landed here after the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
