URPoint Details
Built on the edge of a 700ft plateau with fine views over Blackmoor Vale, the town dates back to King Alfred in AD880.
There are some fine 18th century houses and buildings including the Grosvenor Hotel.
There is an unusual milestone on the A350, a couples of miles north, with the date of 1766 and has Shaston for the place.
