Open all year. Winter: Sunday & Bank Holidays 11am-1pm & 2.30-4.30pm. Summer: Sunday & Bank Holidays 11am-1pm & 2.30-4.30pm. Saturday & Wednesday 2.30-4.30pm. Admission charge. Ramps and lifts have now been installed and make a for a great day out! Due to weight and space restrictions, the inability to take motorised mobility scooters to the lower level, wheelchairs are on hand for visitors to transfer into.
Built during the Napoleonic Wars, the tower now houses the Local History Museum which contains a wealth of information on the town's past and present. There are also displays recreating shops and domestic scenes from Victorian times onwards and an interesting collection of early office equipment. There is also a roof cannon.
