Scotland consists of many beautiful areas well worth exploring. Believe me there is more to Scotland than Glasgow, Edinburgh and the Lochs. Some of the towns, villages and historic sites I recommend seeing, are located in the following county summaries.

Trying to choose the best of anything is one of the hardest tasks and I think nigh impossible. But there are a few which have left a lasting impression and these I share with you.
Of all the castles visited and believe me there were too many to name and write about, the pick for me were - Traquair Castle, Floors Castle, Drum Castle, Blair Castle and Glamis Castle.

Other historic places visited, which I recommend are Sweetheart Abbey, Croick Church, Sueno’s Stone, Holy Chambered Cairn and Culloden Battlefield.

As for scenery, there is no doubt that Sutherland in the far northwest is spectacular. No words can describe the peace, tranquillity and serenity this area has to offer. It not only has the rugged coastline, narrow roads (and I mean narrow), breathtaking mountains, deer, wildlife and flowers in abundance but it really is a place to get away from it all!
