The parish church is dedicated to St Leonard's and is a stone building in the Early English and decorated styles. Inside is a tomb to Lady Constantina de Frecheville, who died in about 1200. She is holding a baby and according to legend the following tale is told. After giving birth to a child, her lover refused to marry her.
She fled into Scarcliffe Wood but lost her way in dense foliage. It was only that by hearing the curfew bell being tolled at Scarcliffe church that she found her way out of the forest, saving both herself and the baby's life. In her will, she left 5 acres of land to pay for the curfew bell to be rung for six weeks each year forever.
An annual flower festival is held at the church.
Access to the church is easy since there are no steps.
