Saxton is a small, affluent village with the name 'Saxton' is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as Saxtun. This is from the Old English Seax-tūn, meaning 'town or settlement of the Saxons'
The Church of All Saints has a Norman chancel arch and south doorway with later additions including a Perpendicular west tower and a monument to two children dated around 1783. There are remains of a Saxon cross.
Location: 15 miles southwest from York and about 12 miles east from Leeds
