This beautiful village on the west side of Windermere has many old cottages set among trees and gardens of flowers.
Beatrix Potter lived at Hill Top Farm, behind the Town Bank Arms in the early 1900’s. She married a Westmorland solicitor, William Heelis. When she died in 9143 she bequeathed her house and much of the surrounding land she owned to the National Trust.
