The village stands at the head of a wooded valley of the River Frome and close to Cirencester Park.
In the 14th century church dedicated to St Kenelm are many fine memorials.
Although no longer carrying canal boats Sapperton Tunnel carried the Thames and Severn Canal for two miles beneath the Bathurst estate.
The Daneway Inn was a regular haunt of bargees and ‘leggers’ – the men would lie on their backs and push on the tunnel wall.
