Sanquhar - sankar
A Royal Burgh in Upper Nithsdale, where a granite monument marks the spot where the Covenanters planned the two ‘Declarations of Sanquhar’ in 1680 and 1685, in their fight to defend Presbyterianism against the Stuarts.
To the west are the remains of an earthwork known as ‘Devil’s Dyke’.
