Originally built for Viscount Peel in 1870, and designed by Henry Clutton in the Tudor style, the estate later owned by Sir Percy Steward chairman of the London Brick Company is now the base for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
The gardens and reserve cover some 104 acres where the habitat and welfare of birds and their environment are observed and encouraged. There is a gift shop with information on the growing awareness, and participation in walks of this conservation work.
