URPoint Details
Church of St Mary Magdalene is the Royal Parish Church, and the chancel is richly decorated both walls and ceiling are painted. Set into the floor of the chancel is a brass cross above which the coffins of members of the Royal Family have rested before being taken to Windsor. There is a tradition that no one may walk on this cross and even members of the choir divide as they pass it. Of interest are the medallions in memory of King Edward VII, Queen Alexandra, King George V and Queen Mary, a richly panelled pulpit built of oak and covered in solid silver, and much stained glass. Outside the tower at the west end is a rare Greek font over 1000 years old and made from one solid block of marble.
