Situated on the bay, where in 1847 the emigrant ship 'Exmouth' floundered with a heavy loss of life.
To the northeast on a rocky stretch of coast is Ardnave Point at the mouth of Loch Gruinart.
To the south, and keeping inland from the rocky coast there are some fine caves. It passes near the shores of Loch Gorm with remains of the ancient castle of the Macdonalds on the way to the sandy Saligo Bay, in the Rhinns of Islay.
