A village associated with the famous Scottish patriot Fletcher of Saltoun who died in 1716 whose tutor the historian Gilbert Burnett (afterwards the Bishop of Salisbury) was parish minister.
Saltoun Hall is the imposing seat of the Fletchers who have held the estate since 1643.
