A popular resort with brine and medicinal baths, excellent sands on which motor races have been held and the views from the cliffs is splendid.
In the 19th century when the resort was founded, the first streets were built of white brick and named after jewels.
The Zetland Hotel built in 1861 used to have its own railway platform and some it can still be seen.
Linked to Saltburn is the smaller resort of Marske and the Jacobean hall is the finest 17th century house in the area.
