An attractive fishing port built on a steep hill on the banks of the River Tamar.
Two bridges over the River Tamar link Cornwall to Devon. The singled track rail bridge was one of Brunel’s Victorian masterpieces and opened in 1859. The new road bridge was opened in 1961.
The 17th century guildhall sits on granite pillars, and in the part-Norman church is a fine Tudor chalice.
A mile and a half away is Trematon Castle with its roofless 13th century keep and other remains.
