Rydal Mount (1½m off A591)  Open daily, March to October 9.30am-5pm. November to February, daily 10am-4pm. William Wordsworth lived here from 1813 until his death in 1850. A simple stone marks Wordsworth’s grave in the 12th or 13th century St Oswald’s churchyard where one of eight yews planted by Wordsworth in 1819 stands near his grave.  The poet is buried in the southeast corner beside his beloved wife Mary who died in 1859. In the same corner is his sister Dorothy and three of his children, Dora, Catherine and Thomas.
