The church sits on the north side of the square and was made a collegiate church in 1310 by John, Lord Grey of Ruthin.
The beautiful north roof of the church of elaborate design and carving was constructed by Henry VII after his purchase of the lordship from the Earl of Kent.
The church gates date from 1727 and very splendid.
The incumbent of St Peter’s is known as the Warden and lives in the Cloisters, a much altered part of the old college.
