A village with an attractive High Street with houses dating back over 200 years and just off the High Street is a little green complete with pond usually graced with swans.
Rudyard Kipling lived at the Elms and where he wrote several of his most famous works until sightseers drove him to Burwash.
The Parish Church of St Margaret was largely rebuilt in the 19th century but still retains some of its original works, including the 13th century tower and some Norman windows. The stained glass is by Sir Edward Burne-Jones.
The famous girls school of Roedean can be reached along the clifftop road.
