URPoint Details
A small hamlet and deer forest on the southeast bank of the River Spey links Aviemore with Kingussie.
South of the forest, at the head of Geln Einich is the lonely loch of the same name one of the wildest lochs in the Highlands situated at 1,650ft in an amphitheatre of Cairngorm peaks with Braeriach standing at 4,248ft to the east and the great cliffs of Sgoran Dubh at 3,658ft to the southwest.
To the southeast of the church and reached on a by-road is the beautiful and not well known Loch an Eilean in wooded surroundings and noted for its triple echo. Near the church situated on a bend in the Spey is the mansion of ‘The Doune’ dated from the 16th century.
On an island of the loch stands the sinister ruined Castle of the Comyns, once a stronghold of the notorious Wolf of Badenoch.
