A naval base on the Forth estuary has played a significant part in World War II. The Garden City stands on the grounds where in 1651 the Battle of Inverkeithing took place.
The dockyard church contains memorials of this and other wars.
The former Cunard liner ‘Mauritania’ was broken up here.
