A mining village on the River Esk, below the ruins of Roslin (sometimes spelt Rosslyn), the stronghold of Sir Henry Sinclair, 3rd Earl of Orkney.
The Bilston Burn which flows north of Roslin is a great place for geologists.
On a wall of the 'Old Rosslyn' Inn on College Hill is an inscribed plaque recording names of former visitors including Dr Johnson and Boswell in 1773, Robert Burns, Queen Victoria in 1856 and Edward VII have all visited the inn.
