Roger Bacon, OFM born c.1214, Ilchester (Doctor Mirabilis, meaning "wonderful teacher"), was an English philosopher and Franciscan friar and alchemist. Bacon became a master at Oxford, lecturing on Aristotle. There is no evidence he was ever awarded a doctorate.
