The little church of this hamlet on the Borthwick Water dates from 1650.
To the west on the Tushielaw road beyond the early 19th century Greenbank toll-house now part of a farm is Firestane Edge, a fine viewpoint standing at 1,000ft.
Beyond it lies little Alemoor Loch is approximately 2 kilometeres long and is drained by the Ale Water a tributary of the River Teviot.
