URPoint Details
River Wye and Victoria Bridge, Hereford. A pleasant walk can be taken from the Old Bridge to the Victoria Suspension Bridge. From the pathway are views across Bishop Meadow to the south and, on the opposite bank the cathedral, the Bishop's Palace and the site of Hereford Castle. The suspension bridge, which replaced an earlier ferry, was built to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897. Just beside the path by the tennis courts is a plaque to "Dan", the dog who inspired Elgar's 11th Enigma Variation.
