It rises in the heart of the Cairngorms and runs 87 miles eastwards past Braemar, Balmoral, Ballater, Aboyne and Banchory.
The valley is more commonly known now as Deeside till it enters the North Sea at Aberdeen.
It is an excellent salmon river.
The river valley is really outstandingly beautiful and still well wooded.
At the falls or Linn of Dee is where the river rushes through a deep narrow gorge and is a most impressive sight from the bridge.
