Ripley has a charter, granted by Henry III, which makes it one of the oldest in the land, and the Autumn Fair is still one of the biggest in the area.
The town expanded rapidly from 1790 when the Butterley Company established by Benjamin Outram and William Jessop two of the greatest civil engineers of the day.
The son of a local Doctor, Barnes Wallis, was to become the most eminent of aviation engineers of the 20th Century.
Ripley Morris Men have been busy entertaining the many tourists who visit Amber Valley.
Ripley Green Garters Ladies Morris Team was founded in 1982. They perform North West Clog Dancing from Lancashire, Cheshire and Derbyshire and can be recognised by their green and yellow dresses and bells on their black clogs. They dance at many events throughout the area and have raised and donated money to local and national charities.
