A ½ mile long grass covered terrace and adjoining woodlands with vistas over Rievaulx Abbey and Rye valley to Ryedale and the Hambleton Hills.
There are two 18th century temples the Ionic Temple has elaborate ceiling paintings and fine 18th century furniture. A permanent exhibition in the basement is on English landscape design in the 18th century. The mid 18th century landscape terrace garden overlooking the deeply incised valley of the River Rye. The gardens were laid out in 1758 by Thomas Duncombe III. The serpentine terrace with its two temples (Tuscan and Ionic), one at each end, contrasts with the formality of the Duncombe Terrace at nearby Duncombe Park. This is an outstanding example of picturesque informal taste
