Once a market town with a charter dating back to 1542 is a lovely place where three rivers meet, has two lakes and water-meadows is now a large busy and thriving town.
In the long, winding High Street is Basing House complete with seven bays is where the founder of Pennsylvania, William Penn lived.
St Mary's Church originally built in 1630, was twice almost completely destroyed. The tower and the yellow-brick aisles and early Gothic windows are all that remain of the old church
