URPoint Details
The village sits in a remote part of Liddesdale in a setting of hills with Larriston Fells rising to 1,677ft to the south.
To the northeast and beyond the Liddel Water stood Thorlieshope Tower, well known home of Dandie Dinmount in Scott's 'Guy Mannering'.
To the east rises Peel Fell to 1,975ft in the Cheviot range and on the north-eastern slopes is the Kielder Stone a remarkable boulder, and given the name the Devil's Lapful.
The road northeast to Jedburgh climbs to 1,250ft at Note o'the Gate, in the Lowland hills.
There is a walking trail through the forest here, with a viewpoint, car park and picnic spot nearby.
