A tower has stood on this site for over a thousand years, protecting the Quays at Waterford. The present round tower dates from the 13th century, and is the oldest urban civic building in the country. Here Strongbow met Aoife, the daughter of Dermot McMurrough, King of Leinster, and their subsequent marriage was to change forever the course of Irish history.
