URPoint Details
A chain ferry provides a vehicle link over the river Yare from Norwich to Great Yarmouth and can carry 3 cars at a time.
The river can also be crossed by a railway swing bridge, an iron bridge built in 1846 carries trains from Norwich to Lowestoft. The swing bridge is now electrically operated and swings open about 1300 times a year to let yachts and the famous wherries with their 40ft masts pass through.
