URPoint Details
The tree lined High Street has lovely houses, cottages and bow fronted shops.
One shop over 400 years old has a long loft the entire length of the house and garden, and was the first dance hall, the platform where the fiddlers played still stands.
The first telephone exchange was housed in Patmore's baker's shop. When the bread had to be taken from the oven, Mrs Patmore had to leave the exchange board and the clerks in the nearby office would have to run across to put their calls through, no doubt causing some delays.
