URPoint Details
A seafaring village on the estuary of three rivers – the Esk, the Mite and the Irt.
The town was granted a market charter in 1209 and flourished through the Middle Ages.
In 1825 the beacon on the hill above the port was built as a lighthouse for the coastal traffice the town relied on.
Sandy beaches, seafront, and safe bathing makes this a very attractive seaside resort.
