Prudhoe Castle (EH), on minor road off A695. Open April to end October, daily 10am-6pm. Admission charge. Video presentation on Northumbrian castles; dogs allowed in certain areas. Disabled parking 70m from entrance via slope, cobbles and loose gravel; disabled drivers may park within castle in front of manor house. Access to castle via 200m up cobbled slope; ground floor of main house accessible via one step; access to upper floor of manor house and chapel is up steep steps - assistance required; seats in manor house. Grounds have easy access on impacted gravel and smooth grass, but pushers needed; steep slopes can be avoided; benches provided. Shop has easy access. Set on a wooded hillside overlooking the River Tyne are the extensive remains of this 12th century castle including a gatehouse, curtain wall and keep.
