Only the great gateway in the High Street and domestic buildings remain of this first Cluniac Priory in England was founded, as was Lewes Castle, by William de Warenne, and was larger than its diocesan church, Chichester Cathedral.
At the dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th century, much of the Priory was destroyed under the guidance of Thomas Cromwell. The remaining are part of the monastic living quarters.
The remains are located on one side of the Convent Fields, to the south of the recreation area.
