A typical small market town, the oldest part lies around the 13th century Parish Church and the beautiful 17th century Manor House.
Close by is a site known as 'The Mount' reputed to be the location of the Black Prince's hunting lodge. It is in remembrance of the Prince that the town added the royal title to its name in the 14th century.
A little street of 17th and 18th century cottages, many of them half-timbered, lead away from the church and the High Street is a pleasant place to shop.
In its centre is the brick in Market Square is the old Market House with open arcades and crowning the roof is a turret with a clock and a bell.
Vine House is a Tudor building very close to Market House is gabled with herringbone brickwork and has a vine growing up it.
