Preston Mill, (NTS) - East Linton
URPoint Details
Parking; picnic sites; milling exhibition and shop. Disabled passengers may alight from cars at the mill. Cars should then return to car park. Access to ground floor only which gives a partial view of mill machinery. Sloping access to shop and exhibition area but accessible to wheelchairs. Grounds are fully accessible in dry weather on fairly smooth grass and gravel paths to view duck pond.
There has been a mill on this site for centuries, and the present stone buildings date from the 18th century.
The water-wheel and the grain milling machinery it powers are relatively modern and the mill continued in commercial use until 1957.
The conical-roofed kiln and the attractive red pantiled buildings make this a popular haunt for photographers and artists.
Nearby is the mill pond, with its resident ducks and geese don't forget the Phantassie Doocot which once held 500 birds.
