Preston Candover - Church of St Mary the Virgin
Wield Rd, Preston Candover RG25 2EN, England
URPoint Details
When Blomfield built the new Church of St Mary the Virgin, (Churches Conservation Trust) in 1884-85, the old church was demolished apart from the chancel and only this rather charming survival remains. A lancet window shows its foundation about 1190, but few medieval parts survived a fire in 1681. There are some medieval files, traces of 18th century wall paintings and a large number of memorials from several centuries.
