Until 1849 steamers sailed 21 miles from Donaghadee in Northern Ireland to here, and became a Gretna Green for the Irish.
Couples would arrive on Saturday, have their banns called on Sunday and marry on Monday.
A resort on the west coast of the Rhinns of Galloway, there are some attractive bays and the views from the cliff top.
To the south are of the ruins of Dunskey Castle built in 1510.
It is from here so the story goes that St Patrick once crossed from Ireland in a single stride.
