URPoint Details
Portchester The Church of St Mary, apart from the south transept is still more or less intact and unaltered. The fine west front and the 12th century carved font rests on a 19th century base. The tower was added between 1376 and 1381 and towards the end of the 14th century Richard II built a palace within the inner courtyard and you can still see the shell of the porch which led to the great hall and kitchens beyond. Originally the Romans had built two large gates and two small posterns and the Langate is all that remains.
