An attractive resort with lovely old houses and a picturesque ‘Ship Inn’ and at the end of the resort is the notorious Porlock Hill rising 1 in 4.
The mainly Church of St Culbone is 35ft long and claimed to be one of the smallest in England and dates from Norman times.
The parish church of St Dubricius is mainly 13th century and has a fragment of a Saxon cross on the west wall of the nave.
In the 14th century arcade is an alabaster effigy of John Hartington, a knight who fought alongside Henry V in France in 1417.
He lies besides his wife on a superb table tomb, and his head is supported by angels.
