URPoint Details
Remarkable scenery with wooded glens, gorges, torrents and waterfalls of the upper valley of the River Neath and along with several interesting inns is a beautiful area not too be missed.
The main waterfalls are the Upper Fall of the Hepste (spout of snow), the Clungwyn Falls on the Mellte, the Falls of the Nedd (Neath).
The road to Brecon over the mountains of Fforest Fawr maybe tricky at times but well worth the effort and at one point reaches a height of 1,468ft.
The road passes the quaint little village of Ystradfellte (pronounced Ustradvelhty) and is joined by the Roman road (Sarn Elen) on which stands a tall stone, the Maen Madoc inscribed with the words of ‘Dervaci filius Jusit ic iacit’.
