URPoint Details

Two villages join Podington which is in one of the most beautiful old parts of the country.
The countryside is magnificent with lovely farms and farmland and there have been only about 50 or so new houses built in the last century.

Hinwick House is a beautiful and stately Queen Anne house built in 1710 for, and still occupied by the Orlebar family and contains some fine interesting furniture and paintings by Van Dyck.

St Mary's Church is a typical Northamptonshire style village church, which is partly Norman and partly 13th century. It has fine monuments, an attractive interior and the countryside setting is particularly lovely.

One attractive feature is the High Street with stone thatched cottages built in the 1700s, and where the womenfolk sat outside their door on a summer evenings making pillow lace.

Legend has it that lace making here dates from Catherine of Aragon’s incarceration in Kimbolton Castle and that Oak Cottage, where there was a lace making school, has a ghost – a lady in a lace bonnet looking for her bobbins!
