Pleasley Vale -Church of St Chad

Pleasley Vale NG19 8RP, England

URPoint Details

St Chad's church, was built in 1876, and was originally a private chapel owned by the Pagett family who lived in Stuffyn Wood Hall, which would have been a few hundred yards from St Chad's if it still existed. The Chapel was moved from beneath the hall to the other side of the stream, which runs through the vale. The stream separated the diocese of Derby and Southwell. The Bishop from one of the diocese would not allow marriage in the church, so it was re-located over the stream in order for couples to marry. The Church has many beautiful features such as stained glass windows, a beautifully carved screen and fully restored Victorian reed organ. The Church also has fourteen pictures depicting Christ's journey through the streets to his crucifixion, known as the Stages of the Cross.

Unfortunately, the church is not accessible to wheelchair users.
