The wooded ravine of Dura Den to the north by the Ceres Burn is of interest to geologists for its fossils.
Three miles northeast at Magus Muir off the St Andrews road, there is a cairn within a plantation marking the spot where Archbishop Sharp was murdered by Covenanters in 1679. His monument is in the church at St Andrews.
There is a also a Martyrs’ Stone within railings in memory of five Covenanters taken prisoner of the Battle of Bothwell Brig in 1679 and executed here.
