The village on the River Urie with Pitcaple Castle restored in the 19th century on the site of an earlier building.
The castle had associations with James IV, Mary, Queen of Scots, Charles II and the Marquis of Montrose who as a prisoner apparently slept here on his journey to Edinburgh in 1650.
