URPoint Details
St Helen's church stands in a dominant position on the hill overlooking the village as may be expected since it occupies the site of a former castle. The church was awarded the 'Palm for Ugliness' among all churches of the Hundred in Scarsdale. The porch and nave were gutted and rebuilt in 1939. The church now has thinner walls and a lower roofline. The north aisle named The Lady Chapel was also added. Inside a pair of paintings can be seen which Colonel Coke of nearby Brookhill Hall presented in 1902 to be used as the Reredos for the altar.
There is good access into the church, but unfortunately, the toilets are not accessible to wheelchair users.
