Access to castle and grounds via ramp at castle entrance allows easy access beyond bridge, access is on impacted gravel paths and well-tended smooth grass to all areas apart from interior of towers slopes in some areas - assistance may be required top of motte accessible with care and assistance to ambulant disabled visitors - 80 steep steps with handrail. Sounds of bird song and steam railway below (note) partially sighted visitors should bring a companion due to unfenced ditches and steps. Shop easy access for wheelchairs. Exhibition in chapel via ramp.
A splendid motte and bailey castle, once a royal ranch. It is well preserved, with much of the original walls, towers and keep, and there are spectacular views over the surrounding countryside.
