An austere neo-classical house built in 1814-17 by Jeffry Wyatville for William Wyndham. The Wyndhams sold the estate to Bertram Philipps in 1917, and he gave the house to the National Trust in 1943.
The house is a three storey, 9 bay block, with rows of sash windows and a parapet concealing a hipped roof a pedimented tetra-style portico rises the full height of the south front. The entrance hall has a frieze of shields and cornucopias to the severely classical staircase hall with iron balustrade, rising to screen of scagliola columns. There are many Philipps family portraits, and a small collection of landscapes largely 17th century classical.
